Lou Paff grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and majored in music at the University of Minnesota. After graduating he joined the Peace Corps and spent two years teaching in Liberia. That led to 44 more years of teaching with 39 of them at Oregon Episcopal School here in Portland. He always said that his teaching supported his music habit :)
Lou fell in love with the pipe organ through hearing one in his church as a young boy but he never played one until he was 29. In Portland during the 1970s he studied organ with Douglas Butler. In 1975 he began installing an organ in his home and slowly expanded it until 2011 when he discovered what can be done with Hauptwerk. That led to an easy decision to replace his pipe organ with a Hauptwerk organ, a decision he has never regretted.
